Success Stories: Scott S.

For years, Scott Stadler never thought much about his weight. Growing up, he was active in sports and had no issues staying fit. But once life shifted to parenthood, work, travel and endless business dinners, the pounds slowly crept on. Over the span of 20 years, Scott gained 70–80 pounds without fully realizing it until everyday life started to change. “I didn’t notice it much until I had to buy a new suit, new clothes. Then I started looking at pictures and thought, oh my gosh. Before I knew it, my activity level had dropped, and the weight had just piled on.”
At his heaviest, Scott weighed 295 pounds. He was tired, sluggish, and even developed sleep apnea, requiring a CPAP machine at night. Swimming or wearing scrubs at work became uncomfortable. That’s when he decided he needed help.

Finding The Right Support
Scott reached out to Anchorage Bariatrics and began to see Kami Howlett, PA-C. Together, they developed a plan that included medication-assisted weight loss with Wegovy (a GLP-1 weekly shot). From the start, Scott felt supported. “Kami is super outgoing, bubbly, and fun. She never talks down to me and she’s always positive and empathetic. Everyone at the clinic made me feel comfortable. I never once felt weird or out of place.” Over the past 13.5 months, Scott has gone from 295 pounds down to 215, with his sights set on reaching 200. Along with taking medication, he committed to daily exercise and portion control. These changes have been nothing short of life-changing.
“I feel great. I don’t use my CPAP anymore because I don’t need it. I don’t snore. I have tons more energy, and I’m back to officiating basketball games. My activity level compared to last year is night and day.”
Scott says the biggest lesson has been portion control and balance. “You can function fine with a lot less food. I still enjoy dessert and the occasional cocktail, but in small portions. I didn’t deprive myself. I just retrained my body and mind. That’s what makes it sustainable.” He also encourages anyone considering a weight-loss program to commit fully. “Medication is a tool, but it’s not the whole answer. You need to exercise, change your habits, and work with a medical team that knows what they’re doing. If you do, it’s amazing what can happen.”
Today, Scott weighs 215 pounds, down 80 pounds from his starting point, and he’s still working toward his goal of 200. More importantly, he feels like himself again—active, confident, and healthy.
“I call it a work in progress. I may drop a few more pounds, then just stabilize and stay active. Either way, this past year has completely changed my life.”
